Ellison, Linden pace Giants' win

Ellison, Linden pace Giants' win

Giants 12, Brewers 8
at Maryvale Baseball Park, Phoenix
Saturday, March 3

Giants at the plate: Left fielder Jason Ellison drew a go-ahead, bases-loaded walk from Brewers reliever Mike Myers as the Giants fought back from a 7-2 deficit. Ellison (2-for-4) and Todd Linden (3-for-3) drove in three runs apiece as San Francisco atoned for a 21-2 loss to Milwaukee the previous day.

Brewers at the plate: Catcher Johnny Estrada hit a two-run single in the first inning and an RBI single in the second as the Brewers built their lead. J.J. Hardy and Corey Hart scored two runs apiece. All 11 Brewers hits were singles.

Giants on the mound: Starter Matt Morris needed 56 pitches to get through 1 2/3 innings of work, allowing seven earned runs on five hits, four walks and a wild pitch. Only 27 of those pitches went for strikes. After that, six Giants pitchers limited the Brewers to one run on six hits.

Brewers on the mound: Ben Sheets, Milwaukee's likely Opening Day starter, allowed two runs on two hits and a walk in the first inning, but settled down in a six-pitch, 1-2-3 second inning. The Giants fought back to take the lead in the fourth inning against right-handed reliever Dennis Sarfate, who was tagged for three runs including the one that scored on Myers' walk.

Cactus League records: Giants 2-1, Brewers 2-2

Up next: The Giants are on the road again Sunday for a game against the Mariners in Peoria, where lefty Noah Lowry will face Jeff Weaver. The Brewers travel to Tempe on Sunday for a game against the Angels. Left-hander and 2006 All-Star Chris Capuano is scheduled to make his spring debut against the Angels' Kelvim Escobar.
