Mariners activate shortstop Ketel Marte from 15-day disabled list

Outfielder Stefen Romero optioned to Triple-A Tacoma

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto today announced that the Mariners have recalled from his rehabilitation assignment at AAA Tacoma and activated from the 15-day disabled list shortstop Ketel Marte. To make room on the Major League, 25-man, roster, outfielder Stefen Romero was been optioned to AAA Tacoma (postgame Sunday).

· Stefen Romero, OF, optioned to AAA Tacoma (postgame June 5).

Marte, 22, appeared in 5 games with AAA Tacoma after beginning his rehabilitation assignment on May 31. He hit .200 (4x20) with 4 runs, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 walks and 2 steals.

Marte was injured May 21 at Cincinnati, spraining his left thumb sliding into second base on a stolen base in the top of the 5th inning. In 40 games prior to his injury, Marte was hitting .276 (43x156) with 9 doubles, 2 triples, 1 homer and 31 RBI.

Romero, 27, hit .200 (3x15) with 1 double, 1 sacrifice fly and 2 RBI in 8 games with the Mariners. He is hitting .358 (53x148) with 30 runs, 7 doubles, 4 triples, 7 home runs and 34 RBI in 39 games with AAA Tacoma.

Romero also appeared in the Majors with Seattle in both 2014 and 2015. In a combined 93 big league games, Romero has hit .192 (41x213) with 26 runs, 8 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs and 16 RBI.
