LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers today recalled catcher/infielder Austin Barnes from Triple-A Oklahoma City and designated outfielder Carl Crawford for assignment.
Barnes, 26, had hit safely in his last seven games for OKC and batted .306 with a .413 on-base percentage, eight doubles, a triple and 11 RBI in 37 games at catcher (27 G), second base (6 G), center field (1 G) and third base (5 G). Barnes made the Dodgers' Opening Day roster and went 2-for-15 with an RBI in six games at catcher (4 G) and second base (2 G) before being optioned on April 15.
Crawford hit .185 with two doubles, a triple and six RBI in 30 games this season and batted .278 with 18 home runs and 99 RBI in 320 games with Los Angeles since being acquired in a nine-player trade with the Red Sox on Aug. 25, 2012. He helped key the Dodgers' 2013 run to the NLCS, batting .310 with four homers in six RBI in 10 postseason games.
