White Sox place Melky Cabrera on family emergency leave list
Prior to tonight's game at Detroit, the Chicago White Sox placed outfielder Melky Cabrera on the Family Emergency Leave List and recalled right-handed pitcher Tommy Kahnle from Class AAA Charlotte.
Cabrera, who is required to miss a minimum of three days, has played in all 54 games this season, hitting .275 (56-204) with nine doubles, two triples, four home runs, 24 RBI and 25 runs scored. He is tied for sixth in the American League with 20 multihit games.
Kahnle, 26, is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA (1 ER/3.1 IP) and one strikeout in four relief appearances over three stints with the White Sox in 2016. He previously was recalled on May 23 as the 26th player prior to Chicago's doubleheader vs. Cleveland before being optioned to Charlotte on May 30.
Kahnle has gone 1-0 with a 2.60 ERA (5 ER/17.1 IP) and 19 strikeouts over 14 appearances with the Knights this season. He is 2-3 with a 4.36 ERA (51 ER/105.1 IP) and 103 strikeouts in 94 major-league appearances with Colorado (2014-15) and the White Sox (2016), limiting opponents to a .219 (84-383) average.
