Block parties on Federal Street, fireworks and Kids Days highlight homestand

The Bucs return home from a seven-game road trip that took the team to Arlington, Texas and Miami, Florida. The Pirates return to PNC Park for the fifth homestand of the season, a nine-game stay where the team will host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals.

This homestand is highlighted by the return of Friday and Saturday Night Block Parties on Federal Street, Kids Pirates pillbox hat giveaway on Sunday, June 5 and Sunday Night Baseball on Sunday, June 12.


Friday, June 3, 2016 - Pirates vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (7:05 p.m.)

  • Free Shirt Friday: Tonight is a Free Shirt Friday at PNC Park as the first 20,000 fans, with paid admission, will receive a Pirates tee, presented by Sheetz.
  • Block Party: Tonight the Pirates and Baierl Automotive will host the Friday Block Party on Federal Street. Fans can party on the street with live music, along with food and beer sales. Pirates alumni Grant Jackson will be the special guest bartender at the Leinenkugel Bar that will be located on Federal Street.
  • Make-A-Wish Scholarship Reception: Pirates Charities will welcome nearly 40 former "wish kids" for the Kurt Weiss Scholarship Awards Night at PNC Park. The opportunity to earn a scholarship is offered to any wish kid who is a senior in high school and intends to pursue post-secondary education. It is named in honor of Kurt Weiss, a wish kid who now practices medicine in the Pittsburgh area. Kurt will be present to recognize the students' accomplishments. The students will be recognized on the field prior to tonight's game and will be guests of the Pirates for dinner and the game on the Miller Lite Rooftop.

Saturday, June 4, 2016 - Pirates vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (4:05 p.m.)

  • Fedora Giveaway: Today the first 20,000 fans, with paid admission to PNC Park, will receive a Pirates Fedora, presented by Coca-Cola.
  • Block Party: Come down early to join us before today's game for the Saturday Block Party on Federal Street. Fans are invited to come party on the street as food and beer sales will be available. Pirates alumni Omar Moreno will be the special guest bartender at the Leinenkugel Bar that will be located on Federal Street.
  • Pirates say "NO MORE": The Pittsburgh Pirates, Pirates Charities and the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence are proud to host the 2nd Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Night at PNC Park. In an effort to help raise awareness to this important topic, the Pirates will host a resource fair on Federal Street beginning at 1:30 p.m. The resource fair will be open to the public and offers the unique opportunity for 10 local non-profit, domestic violence support organizations to reach out to Pirates fans to make them aware of the services and resources available.   • Scratch and Win: Everyone is a winner with the special Scratch 'n Win presented by Eat 'n Park. All fans will receive a scratch-off ticket upon entering PNC Park with an opportunity to win one of several great prizes.

Sunday, June 5, 2016 - Pirates vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (1:35 p.m.) - Kids Day

  • Kids Day: Come down early and join the fun as the #1 Cochran Family Fun Zone will be open on Federal Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lined up outside PNC Park will be inflatable rides, face painting, information about the Bucaroos Kids Club, presented by Chick-fil-A and more.
  • Kids Pillbox Cap: Today all kids 14-years-old and younger will receive a kids Pirates pillbox cap, courtesy of Trib Total Media.
  • Girl Scouts Day: Today is Girl Scouts Day at PNC Park as the Pirates join with the Girl Scouts of Western PA and their family and friends in a celebration of Girl Scouts and a day of baseball.   • Naturalization Ceremony: The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Chief of Staff and Pittsburgh native Juliet Choi will administer the Oath of Allegiance to America's newest citizens during a naturalization ceremony on the field at PNC Park prior to tonight's game.
  • Pups in the Park: Fans can enjoy Bucco baseball with their pooch as the Pirates present one of 10 Pup Nights, presented by Rachael Ray Nutrish, at PNC Park. Saturday, June 11, 2016 - Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals (7:15 p.m.)

  • First Pitch: Tonight, professional golfer Jason Day will throw out an honorary first pitch in a pregame ceremony. Day is the top ranked golfer in the world and will be competing in the upcoming USGA US Open to be played at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.
  • Play Ball: Today the Pirates will host youth between the ages of 5 and 12 years old from 7:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. for fun baseball activities on the field at PNC Park. The morning event is part of the Pirates and MLB Play Ball campaign, presented by Chevy. The two morning sessions (7:45 to 9:15 a.m. for ages 5 to 9 years old and 9:30 to 11 a.m. for ages 10 to 12 years old) will be held on the field at PNC Park and will include interactive baseball/softball related activities including hitting a whiffle ball off a tee, catching baseballs in the outfield, learning to throw and hit a catcher's target in the bullpen, and more. Each session will be staffed by Pirates front office personnel, local youth baseball coaches, the Bucco Brigade, Pirates mascots and more.   • Sunday Night: For the third straight season, ESPN will visit Pittsburgh to broadcast Sunday Night Baseball from PNC Park as part of a Sunday Night Baseball doubleheader (Dodgers at Giants nightcap). This is the third consecutive season the Pirates and Cardinals will square off on Sunday Night Baseball from PNC Park as the two played the national event on Sunday, May 11, 2014 and Sunday, July 12, 2015.

Pirates Charities, Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle and his wife, Karla, announced the return of the "Wins for Kids" fundraising campaign for the 2016 season, in partnership with ROOT SPORTS™. The program is now in its sixth season of raising funds for Pirates Charities and The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh's Center for Prader-Willi Syndrome, through donations from fans and supporters, including a significant gift from the Greenbriar Treatment Center.
