Pipeline preview: Benintendi joins Double-A Portland's lineup

Pipeline preview: Benintendi joins Double-A Portland's lineup

Here's a look at top prospects to watch Wednesday in Minor League action:

Hitter to watch: Andrew Benintendi (Red Sox's No. 3)
After an 0-for-4 Double-A debut, Benintendi notched his first two hits with the Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Benintendi, baseball's No. 22 overall prospect, hit .341 in 34 games with Class A Advanced Salem and it's time to see if he can continue to produce like one of the top hitters in the Minor Leagues at the Double-A level. The Sea Dogs face the Fisher Cats at 6:00 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV.

Pitcher to watch: Cody Reed (D-backs' No. 14)
The 19-year old left-hander is off to a strong start in his first season with Class A Kane County. Reed, the D-backs' second-round selection in the 2014 Draft, is 3-1 with a 0.78 ERA through his first four starts this year. Reed has struck out 36 in 23 innings and has yet to give up more than one earned run in any starts. The D-backs' prospect will look to continue his strong start against Peoria at 12:00 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV.

Top Prospects: Reed, ARI

Duel of the day: Jon Harris (Blue Jays' #4) vs. Logan Allen (Padres' #7) Lansing at Fort Wayne (11:05 a.m. ET)
After a shaky 2016 debut, Harris has been lights out. The Blue Jays prospect was unable to escape the first inning on April 9, but since then, he's yet to allow an earned run. Harris gave up just two hits and two walks over five frames in his last outing and is looking to put some more zeroes on the scoreboard today.

Top Prospects: Harris, TOR

Allen got roughed up a bit in his last outing (three earned runs in four innings), but has pitched well overall in 2016 (2-2, 2.74 ERA). The Padres prospect has given up two earned runs or less in six of seven starts this season and has not walked a batter in his last three outings.

Top Prospects: Allen, SD
