The Phillies have granted the release request of veteran catcher J.P. Arencibia.

Arencibia, 30, signed a Minor League deal with the Phillies in December. He did not appear in a game for Philadelphia and was hitting .167 with one home run in 12 games for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Arencibia is a .212 career hitter in six Major League seasons with the Blue Jays, Rangers and Rays.
