University Nights, Social Media Night and Jolly Roger Bobblehead highlight homestand

The Bucs return home from a nine-game National League Central road trip that took the team to St. Louis, Cincinnati and the north side of Chicago. The Pirates return to PNC Park for the longest homestand of the season to date, a 10-game stay where the team will host the Atlanta Braves, Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks.

 

This homestand is highlighted by University Nights on Wednesday, May 18 and Wednesday, May 24, Social Media Night on Thursday, May 19, Raise the Jolly Roger Bobblehead on Saturday, May 21 and Kids Day on Sunday, May 22.

 

Monday, May 16, 2016-Pirates vs. Atlanta Braves (7:05 p.m.)

Perfect Pitch: Tonight the Pirates and Pirates Charities welcome participants from the sixth annual "It's Your Perfect Pitch" camp, for local youth with hearing disabilitiesTonight, select campers will be recognized on the field during a pregame ceremony including a group salute, fan of the game, and a special signing of the National Anthem by one of the guests. Campers will enjoy the game in the Pirates Charities Suite, courtesy of Pirates Charities, as well as in the stands, courtesy of MLB's Commissioner Community Initiative ticket donation program. The one-day clinic, which took place Saturday, May 14, was hosted by The Allegheny Valley Baseball Club, Inc. and The Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf.  The clinic was led by Pirates alumni Grant Jackson, collegiate players and area coaches and was conducted to help improve baseball/softball skills including batting, fielding, pitching and base running. The camp also offers socialization and peer interaction for participants.

Members Catch on the Field: After tonight's game, Pirates Season Ticket Members will have the opportunity Play catch with friends or family in the pristine PNC Park outfield. Tonight's event is exclusively for Members who chose the event as an experience via their Ballpark app Membership Experiences program.

 

Tuesday, May 17, 2016-Pirates vs. Atlanta Braves (7:05 p.m.)

Pups in the Park: Fans can enjoy Bucco baseball with their pooch as the Pirates present one of 10 Pup Nights, presented by Rachael Ray Nutrish, at PNC Park. Each ticket package (1 person & 1 dog) costs just $32 with additional human tickets available for $32 each. A portion of the proceeds benefits local animal shelters. VIP Day: Pirates and Pirates Charities Chairman Bob Nutting along with Pirates left-handed pitcher Tony Watson and his wife Cassie, will host a VIP (Very Important Pirate) Party for kids from Beverly's Birthdays. Each kid will receive a Pirates promo bag, have the chance to watch batting practice, and enjoy a party in the Pirates Charities Suite complete with food and beverage and entertainment. Also, one representative of Beverly's Birthdays will throw out a ceremonial first pitch. Mr. Nutting will host a VIP Party each month during the season in order to provide deserving children with a night at the ballpark in true VIP-style. Children and their families will also enjoy great ballpark menu items provided by Levy Restaurants through their

Levy Cares program.

University Night with IUP: Tonight is the first Pirates University Night of 2016 with Indiana University of Pennsylvania. All fans who purchase University Night tickets will receive a ticket in one of two special sections and a free Pirates/IUP hat. 50/50 Raffle: Today's Pirates Charities 50/50 Raffle, supported by Rivers Casino, will benefit the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania. The goal of the local non-profit is to provide essential housing, employment, and vital support services to eligible local Veterans, service members, and their families to improve their self-sufficiency, sustainability, and quality of life.

On Field Military Ceremony: As part of today's Military Day efforts, a group from the Veteran Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania will be honored during a pregame on-field ceremony and hosted in the Pirates Charities Suite.

Military Take the Field: Tonight the Pirates are proud to honor military men and women from each branch of our nation's military with a special Military Take the Field event. Military members who are currently serving our nation will meet players at their positions on the field immediately leading up to first pitch.

EMS Night: Tonight the Pirates are pleased to host EMS Night at PNC Park to honor all Emergency Medical Service staff. Members in the EMS profession will be honored during a special pregame recognition as the Pirates join Pittsburgh EMS to help raise awareness and celebrate their contributions.

Food Allergy Awareness: Tonight the Pirates are pleased to host the fifth annual Food Allergy Awareness Night at PNC Park in partnership with Mylan. The night will feature a "Peanut Controlled Section" on the Pirates left field Miller Lite Rooftop. Saturday, May 21, 2016-Pirates vs. Colorado Rockies (4:05 p.m.)

Play Ball: Today the Pirates will host youth between the ages of 5 and 12 years old from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for fun baseball activities in and around PNC Park. The early morning session (8 to 10 a.m.) for ages 5 to 9 years old, will be held on the field at PNC Park and will include interactive baseball/softball related activities including hitting a whiffle ball off a tee, catching baseballs in the outfield, learning to throw and hit a catcher's target in the bullpen, and more. The late morning/afternoon session (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) for ages 10 to 12 years old, will take place on Federal Street and will include batting cages, a speed pitch booth, baseball technology education, and a whiffle ball home run derby. Each session will be staffed by Pirates front office personnel, local youth baseball coaches, the Bucco Brigade, Pirates mascots and more. Join in the Fun: Play Ball activities on Federal Street will remain open for all children, registered and non-registered, to enjoy prior to the game. Pitch for Hope: The Pitch for Hope Women's Baseball Clinic is a unique on-field experience led by the Pirates coaching staff. Participants will learn hitting, pitching, fielding and more. After the clinic participants and their guests will enjoy a private brunch. Tickets are $85 and include

Honorary Bat Girl: Major League Baseball's Honorary Bat Girl program was introduced in 2009 to raise additional awareness and support for the annual "Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer" initiative celebrated on Mother's Day. In seven years, thousands of unique testimonials have been submitted and more than 2 million fan votes have been cast. Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer is a Major League Baseball initiative supported by MLB charitable partners, Stand Up To Cancer and Susan G. Komen. This initiative raises awareness about the breast cancer cause, while also raising funds to support breast cancer research.   The Honorary Bat Girl program recognizes baseball fans who have been affected by breast cancer and who demonstrate a commitment to eradicating the disease. The 2016 Honorary Bat Girl for the Pittsburgh Pirates is Kristen Zinsser. Kirsten is a 25 year old Pittsburgh native, beloved first grade teacher, and a big Pittsburgh Sports Fan. She learned that she had invasive ductal carcinoma Breast Cancer (IDC) and was heartbroken for herself, and for what it meant for her students. She has continued to teach through chemo, even using her experience to teach her students the value of kindness, and delivering handmade Valentines from her students to other patients at her Valentine's Day chemo treatment. Kirsten is the perfect role model to serve as an Honorary Bat Girl for the Pittsburgh Pirates. She supports her Pittsburgh teams whenever possible, and displays her hometown spirit and allegiance in her classroom decor.

Kids Day: Come down early and join the fun as the #1 Cochran Family Fun Zone will be open on Federal Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lined up outside PNC Park will be inflatable rides, face painting, information about the Bucaroos Kids Club, presented by Chick-fil-A and more.

Education Day: The Pittsburgh Pirates Education Days combine science, math, geography and history to create a fun and educational opportunity at PNC Park. Today, Education Day will begin at 9:30 a.m. as KDKA's Jeff Verszyla and WPXI's Stephen Cropper will give a live interactive weather presentation on the PNC Park scoreboard. When PNC Park gates open at 11 a.m., each student will be given an interactive workbook as their teachers guide them through the ballpark on a treasure hunt. Students will visit several locations throughout PNC Park including Legacy Square, ballpark concession stands and the weather station located behind center field. They will search for answers to a variety of questions about baseball, science, math, history, and geography. Students can continue to collect information throughout the game and answer questions pertaining to baseball statistics about Pirates players. 50/50 Raffle: Today's Pirates Charities 50/50 Raffle, supported by Rivers Casino, will benefit Life Changing Service Dogs for Veterans. The group is a collaborative effort between Veterans' Cable Service and Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, Inc., to provide service canines to veterans who suffer from physical disabilities, cognitive challenges resulting from traumatic brain injuries or post-traumatic stress disorder.

Isaly's Ice Cream at PNC

The Pirates have partnered with Pittsburgh area-based Isaly's to offer Isaly's ice cream at PNC Park, at the Sweet Spot location on the Main Concourse. It has been over 35 years since the last batch of original Isaly's Ice Cream was made at the famous Boulevard plant. For now, PNC Park is the only place to serve the famous Isaly's Ice Cream. Available flavors include classics such as chocolate, vanilla, and mint chocolate chip, new favorites such as Parrot Claws (creamy vanilla with ribbons of fudge and miniature peanut butter cups), Salty Caramel Truffle, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and of course an Isaly's favorite, Maricopa (creamy vanilla with ribbons of butterscotch).
