Surkamp to make spot start Wednesday

BOSTON -- The A's will turn to left-hander Eric Surkamp for a start against the Red Sox in Wednesday's three-game series finale at Fenway Park.

Surkamp's return was expected, with the A's needing an extra starter after being obligated to play in a split-doubleheader in Baltimore on Saturday following Friday's rainout.

Surkamp was 0-2 with a 5.59 ERA in four starts for the A's last month, allowing 12 earned runs and 25 hits in 19 1/3 innings, and he went 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in two starts for Triple-A Nashville upon his demotion.

The left-hander, who was brought to Boston on Tuesday, won't officially be activated until Wednesday, and he'll likely only be around for one start, with right-hander Jesse Hahn eligible to return on May 17 for a home start against the Rangers.
