Club Statement on the Passing of John Young

DETROIT -- The following statement is attributable to the Detroit Tigers organization.

"The Detroit Tigers are saddened to hear of the passing of John Young and we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Young family. John holds a significant place in Tigers' history as the Club's first round selection in the 1969 Major League Baseball Draft, and he briefly played for the Tigers in 1971 and Tigers' affiliates for nine seasons. John also contributed to the Tigers front office as a minor league instructor, a scout and as scouting director. Most of all we will remember John's passion for youth baseball, and his tireless efforts in developing the RBI Program "Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities." John will be missed and will remain forever in our hearts."
