Bruntlett, who will turn 29 in March, will be manager Phil Garner's "super utility" man in 2007. A versatile fielder, Bruntlett will be called upon to play almost every position, including all three outfield spots, plus second base, third base and shortstop.
Bruntlett hit .277 last season with a career-high 33 hits and eight doubles. He led the Astros with a .412 average as a pinch-hitter, including four RBIs and three doubles. He appeared at six positions in 2006 -- 23 games at second, 21 at short, eight in center, six in left, five in right and two at third.
Since 2004, Bruntlett has appeared in 16 playoff games for the Astros, including two World Series games. In 2005, he started the game-ending double play in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series. In 240 career Major League games, Bruntlett has hit .251 with nine home runs, 36 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.
