ARLINGTON -- The Rangers added depth at third base by signing Jared Sandberg to a Minor League contract, but without an invitation to Spring Training.

Sandberg is a former Major Leaguer, playing in parts of three seasons with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Sandberg does have 25 home runs and 92 RBIs in 630 Major League at-bats but with a .221 batting average, a .297 on-base percentage and 236 strikeouts. The nephew of Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg, he spent last year at Double-A in both the Houston and Cleveland organizations.

The Rangers also signed outfielder Todd Donovan to a Minor League contract without an invitation to Spring Training. He spilt the 2006 season between Double-A Akron in the Cleveland organization and Triple-A Ottawa and Double-A Bowie in the Baltimore system. With those three teams, he combined to hit .275 with three home runs and 22 RBIs.
