D-backs to pay tribute to Joe Garagiola with special pregame ceremony on May 16

The Arizona Diamondbacks will pay tribute to the late Joe Garagiola during a pregame ceremony on May 16 that will include the Hall of Famer's family and friends as well as some of baseball's most well-known personalities. The former big league catcher, broadcaster and national icon passed away on March 23 at the age of 90.

"Joe is a legend in every sense of the word and we know that many fans in Arizona have wanted to pay tribute to him," said D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall. "There's no better time than with a huge crowd and the national spotlight that comes with playing the Yankees at home for the first time since 2010 on the 15th anniversary of the 2001 World Series. We expect to share a lot of laughs and tears that night as we remember what an amazing person Joe was and the impact he left on this community."

A permanent emblem will be unveiled at Chase Field in Garagiola's memory and the "JOE" logo patch that adorns the sleeve of the D-backs uniforms in 2016 will be available for purchase by fans at D-backs Authentics, with proceeds to benefit St. Peter Indian Mission, the cause to which Garagiola dedicated two decades of his time.

FOX Sports Arizona will also take part in the tribute with guests on-air and a special edition of "D-backs Live." The game's broadcast will also help raise funds for St. Peter Indian Mission.

Additional details of the tribute will be announced the week prior to the event.
