Colon to visit school Monday

As the Royals return home for a short homestand against the Washington Nationals (May 2-4), the players will be interacting with children in the community. On Monday, Christian Colon will make an appearance at a local school and on Tuesday players will interact with a family during the Dream Factory program. Please see below for more details.
Monday, May 2 - Washington Nationals vs. Royals, 7:15 p.m.

  • Go 2 Bat 4 Others Shoe Event - Royals infielder Christian Colon and his wife, Kayla, together with the Bishop Sullivan Center will help Longfellow Elementary students try on and walk away with a new pair of shoes. The Colons will be at Longfellow Elementary, located at 2830 Holmes St in Kansas City, Mo., from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funding for the new shoes is provided by Royals Charities. 

Tuesday, May 3 - Washington Nationals vs. Royals, 7:15 p.m.

  • Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children. These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout and enjoy the game and refreshments. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.

Thursday, May 5 - Off Day

  • Kansas RBI Ribbon Cutting - The Royals will join Kansas Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (Kansas RBI) to cut the ribbon at Barton-Ross Complex field located at 5325 Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kan. The ceremony is to take place at 3 p.m., with a clinic led by Hall of Famer Cal Ripken and Royals alumni. The field was built as a result of funding from Royals Charities, remaining 2012 MLB All-Star Lasting Legacy Funds, The Cal Ripken, Sr., Foundation, and several other community partners. Later that evening, General Manager Dayton Moore will join Ripken and other guests at the Kansas RBI Benefit Banquet at the Vox Theatre located at 1405 Southwest Blvd.
