LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Free agent reliever David Weathers will be returning to the Reds with a new two-year, $5 million contract, according to published reports.
The deal is pending a physical, which Weathers was scheduled to take on Monday.
Weathers was 4-4 with a 3.54 ERA and a team-leading 12 saves in 67 games while earning $1.5 million last season. After a bumpy stretch during part of the first half, the 37-year-old was stellar after the All-Star break when he posted a 1.64 ERA over his final 29 appearances.
Cincinnati has been making efforts to bolster its bullpen during the offseason and already signed veteran left-hander Mike Stanton to a two-year, $5.5 million deal in November.
