Indians place RHP Carlos Carrasco on 15-day DL; activate OF Michael Brantley

The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the 2016 Major League roster:

• Placed RHP CARLOS CARRASCO on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.

• Activated OF MICHAEL BRANTLEY from the 15-day disabled list.

Carrasco was injured covering first base yesterday in the third inning of his start at Detroit. Today's transaction marks Carrasco's fifth career stint on the Major League disabled list. Prior to the injury, Carlos posted a mark of 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in four starts thus far in 2016 (22.0 IP, 16 H, 6 R/ER, 5 BB, 20 K, .200 avg.). Carlos underwent imaging and a clinical evaluation today with Dr. Mark Schickendantz at the Cleveland Clinic and has been diagnosed with a moderate strain of the left hamstring. He is expected to return to game action in four-to-six weeks.

Brantley began the year on the 15-day disabled list rehabbing from off-season right shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder, suffered last September 22 in Minnesota's Target Field. Brantley appeared in two Major League exhibition contests in Goodyear, AZ on March 19-21 and rehabbed for seven games between Triple-A Columbus and Double-A Akron from April 12-23.
