The Kansas City Royals today announced the release of the production, Royalty Reigns, a Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack that details the successful run to the 2015 World Series title and the decade of work that went into the climb to baseball prominence. Royalty Reigns is available beginning today in the Kauffman Stadium Majestic Team Store and will be on sale exclusively through Aramark for a week, before being distributed city-wide through Walmart, Best Buy and Hallmark.
"While we were thrilled with the video provided by Major League Baseball that detailed our run to the World Series title over the Mets, we felt there was much more of a story detailing the building of this franchise," said Kevin Uhlich, Royals' Senior Vice President of Business Operations. "This film project digs much deeper into the efforts of so many, both on and off the field bringing us to this championship level."
The 80-minute film documents the organization's return to championship status through the support of David and Dan Glass as owners, the 2006 hiring of Dayton Moore, his assembling of a baseball operations staff and of course the players who joined the system as draft choices and key trades to eventually become the World Championship team of 2015. The film is packed with highlights that lead up to and include the last two seasons, each of which ended with an American League crown and then winning it all last fall. There are interviews with all of the key players, front office staff members and coaching staff talking about what has led to Kansas City's resurgence. Royalty Reigns also details both of the most memorable comebacks in Royals' history, the rally from the four-run deficit in the 2014 Wild Card Game against Oakland that began an 8-0 start to that postseason, and then last fall's rebound in Houston when Kansas City was down 6-2 with just six outs remaining in Game #4 of the ALDS.
