Texas Rangers recall LHP Alex Claudio from Round Rock
The Texas Rangers today announced that lefthanded pitcher Alex Claudio has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock of the Pacific Coast League. Claudio (#58) will be in uniform for Wednesday afternoon's game in Seattle.
To make room for Claudio on the active roster, righthanded pitcher Phil Klein has been optioned to Round Rock.
In addition, righthanded pitcher Luke Jackson was activated from the 15-day disabled list and optioned to Round Rock.
Claudio has made one appearance for the Express this season, pitching 2.0 scoreless innings on April 7 at Iowa with one walk and two strikeouts. The lefthander has seen action with Texas each of the last two seasons with a 1-1 record and 2.89 ERA in 33 career major league appearances. He has held lefthanded batters to a .212 (11-52) batting average in his major league stints.
Klein has pitched 3.0 scoreless innings in his two relief appearances with Texas in 2016.
Jackson was placed on the 15-day DL on April 3 retroactive to March 25, with a stress reaction in his lower back. He was sent to Round Rock on injury rehab assignment on April 9 and has made two relief appearances for the Express (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R-ER, 1 BB, 4 SO).
With today's moves, the Rangers' major league roster remains at 40 players.
