Chavez replaces Floyd for Game 2

NEW YORK -- The Mets' starting lineup for Friday night's Game 2 of the National League Championship Series had one predictable change when it was posted hours before first pitch against the St. Louis Cardinals: Endy Chavez was playing left field.

Chavez entered Thursday's Game 1 in the top of the third inning after starter Cliff Floyd had to leave the game with an aggravated left Achilles tendon injury. While Chavez went 0-for-3 at the plate, he did contribute a diving catch in left field that kept the Cardinals from a potential big inning in the fifth.

Manager Willie Randolph inserted Chavez in the No. 8 spot in the lineup, similar to what he did when Chavez replaced Floyd in the lineup late in the season when Floyd's injury persisted.

In this scenario, right fielder Shawn Green moves up from No. 7 to 6 and second baseman Jose Valentin moves up from No. 8 to 7. The top of the lineup remains the same with shortstop Jose Reyes leading off, followed by catcher Paul Lo Duca, center fielder Carlos Beltran, first baseman Carlos Delgado and third baseman David Wright before picking up with Green, Valentin, Chavez and starting pitcher John Maine.
