Braves Set Opening Day Roster

The Atlanta Braves today officially set their 25-man roster for Opening Day. The Braves purchased the contracts of two players, including RHP Alexi Ogando and OF Drew Stubbs. Outfielder Jeff Francoeur had his contract purchased on March 29. RHP Jhoulys Chacin was reassigned to Triple-A Gwinnett, while two players were designated for assignment including INF/OF Emilio Bonifacio and OF Michael Bourn. Two players will switch uniform numbers, including RHP John Gant (52) and Stubbs (2). In addition, bench coach Carlos Tosca will change to No. 32.

The Braves roster includes four rookies, including RHPs Gant, Jose Ramirez and Dan Winkler, and OF Hector Olivera. Nine players are donning a Braves uniform for the first time in their career.

In addition, the Braves placed four pitchers on the 15-day disabled list including LHPs Manny Banuelos (left elbow inflammation, retroactive to March 25), Jesse Biddle and Andrew McKirahan, and RHP Shae Simmons (all recovering from "Tommy John" surgery). Left-handed pitcher Paco Rodriguez (recovering from "Tommy John" surgery) was placed on the 60-day disabled list on February 20.

The Braves open the 2016 campaign, their 51st in Atlanta and their final season at Turner Field, on Monday, April 4, at home (4:10 p.m. ET, FOX Sports Southeast). Right-handed pitcher Julio Teheran will make his third straight Opening Day start for Atlanta.

The season-opening roster includes 12 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and five outfielders:

PITCHERS (12): John Gant (RH), Jason Grilli (RH), Jim Johnson (RH), Bud Norris (RH), Eric O'Flaherty (LH), Alexi Ogando (RH), Williams Perez (RH), Jose Ramirez (RH), Julio Teheran (RH), Arodys Vizcaino (RH), Dan Winkler (RH) and Matt Wisler (RH).

CATCHERS (2): Tyler Flowers and A.J. Pierzynski

INFIELDERS (6): Erick Aybar, Gordon Beckham, Freddie Freeman, Adonis Garcia, Kelly Johnson and Jace Peterson.

OUTFIELDERS (5): Jeff Francoeur, Ender Inciarte, Nick Markakis, Hector Olivera and Drew Stubbs.
