Today's exhibition slate features games in six states
By Austin Laymance
With the start of the regular season only days away, big league clubs are starting to break camp in Florida and Arizona, and though teams are on the move, the action isn't slowing down.
Today's exhibition slate features games in six different states, headlined by a meeting between the Cubs and Mets in Las Vegas. It's one of nine games fans can stream live on MLB.TV.
Here's what to watch for throughout the day (all times ET).
Homecoming for Kris Bryant: CHC @ NYM, 8:05 p.m., MLB.TV
Bryant will play in front of his hometown fans when the Cubs meet the Mets for the first of two exhibitions at Cashman Field in Las Vegas in a rematch of last year's National League Championship Series. Bryant grew up on the west side of town and was given a key to the city in December after winning the NL Rookie of the Year Award.
Another Vegas native, Paul Sewald, will start for the Mets in what will be a bullpen game in the ballpark of New York's Triple-A affiliate. Sewald is starting in place of Jacob deGrom, who skipped the trip because of concerns about being too far away from his wife with the couple's first child due on Tuesday. Sewald saved 24 games with a 1.75 ERA in 44 appearances last year with Double-A Binghampton.
Ryan Williams will start for the Cubs. He was the organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2015.
Seager to return for Dodgers: LAA @ LAD, 10:10 p.m., MLB.TV
Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager is set to return from injury and play five innings against the Angels in an exhibition at Dodger Stadium. Seager has not appeared in a big league game since he sprained his left knee on March 11. Left-hander Scott Kazmir will start for the Dodgers.
The Angels, who broke camp in Arizona on Tuesday, will hand the ball to lefty Andrew Heaney. It's the first of a three-game exhibition Freeway Series as both clubs prepare for Opening Day on Monday.
Minute Maid Park welcomes back Astros: MIL @ HOU, 8:10 p.m., MLB.TV
The Astros come home to face the Brewers in the first of two exhibitions at Minute Maid Park. Collin McHugh gets the start for the Astros in his final spring tuneup. McHugh is lined up to start the second game of the season Wednesday against the Yankees.
The Phils play the prospects again Saturday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park.
Padres play in El Paso: SD @ ELP, 8:35 p.m., MLB.TV
The Padres travel to El Paso to face their Triple-A affiliate, the El Paso Chihuahuas. Robbie Erlin takes the hill for San Diego, as he continues to compete for a job at the back end of the rotation. Erlin has a 2.25 ERA this spring, the lowest of any Padres starter. Carlos Pimentel gets the ball for El Paso.
Battle for the Bay: OAK @ SF, 10:15 p.m., MLB.TV
The Giants and A's are back in the Bay Area for the first of a three-game exhibition Bay Bridge Series. Jeff Samardzija gets the ball for the Giants in his first home start at AT&T Park. The A's will counter with Chris Bassitt.
