The Colorado Rockies announced today that infielder Trevor Story is the winner of the 13th Annual Abby Greer Award, presented to the Colorado Rockies Spring Training Most Valuable Player. In 17 games through March 29, Story has batted .378 (17-for-45) with 17 runs, four doubles, one triple, six home runs and 13 RBI. He ranks second in the Cactus League in slugging percentage (.911) and OPS (1.362) and is tied for first in runs scored.
The award was created in 2004 in honor and remembrance of Abby Greer, who was a very special Rockies fan from Boulder, Colo. Abby loved all sports, but especially loved baseball and the Colorado Rockies. In August of 2002, at the age of six, Abby lost her life in a tragic accident near Coors Field. In her honor, the Abby Greer Award is presented each season to the Colorado Rockies Spring Training Most Valuable Player.
