JUPITER, Fla. -- The Cardinals announced a wave of cuts on Sunday, trimming their camp roster to 50 players by sending nine out to the Minor League side of Spring Training.
Left-handed reliever Jayson Aquino, the only player on the 40-man roster to be moved, was optioned to Triple-A Memphis. The other eight -- Corey Littrell, Trey Nielsen, Daniel Poncedeleon, J.C. Sulbaran, Luke Weaver, Steve Bean, Luis Cruz and Alberto Rosario -- were reassigned to Minor League camp.
With these moves, the Cardinals are left with 24 pitchers, five catchers, 13 infielders and eight outfielders in big league camp. Of those, 12 are non-roster invitees.
