SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The D-backs used a home run from David Peralta and an outstanding outing by Rubby De La Rosa to beat the Royals, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in front of a record crowd of 13,514 at Salt River Fields.
The D-backs got on the board in the first inning when Jean Segura led off with a double and Phil Gosselin drove him home with a single to center.
Peralta's homer to right gave Arizona a 3-0 cushion.
The homer came off Royals starter Kris Medlen, who allowed six hits over his three innings.
"Medlen was off a little bit with his timing and tempo in the first inning," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "Got a curveball up for the home run. But, other than that, I thought he threw the ball well."
De La Rosa had his finest outing of the spring, scattering four hits while striking out five and not allowing a walk in four innings.
"I felt comfortable on the mound today," De La Rosa said. "My fastball command was good on both sides of the plate, to righties and lefties. My breaking ball was good, slider was good, changeup. My fastball command was great."
"[Wade Davis] and [Kelvin Herrera] threw the ball," Yost said. "I'm happy with the way our big guys are swinging the bats. [Moustakas], [Hosmer], [Cain], [Kendrys Morales] -- all had good at bats. It was just a well-pitched game today."
Kansas City's Kyle Zimmer struck out one while pitching a scoreless eighth inning.
