Greinke gets Opening Day nod vs. Rockies

Miller, Corbin, De La Rosa to follow as D-backs set first 4 in rotation

Greinke gets Opening Day nod vs. Rockies

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- While D-backs fans have known for weeks now that Zack Greinke, Shelby Miller, Patrick Corbin and Rubby De La Rosa would be part of the team's rotation, it was not until Friday that manager Chip Hale said that would be the order they would pitch in.

The one thing still left to be determined is who will fill the No. 5 slot.

Greinke will get the nod Opening Day on April 4, while Miller and Corbin will also pitch in that season-opening series against the Rockies.

De La Rosa will make his first start of the regular season against the Cubs on April 7.

"We looked at the first month of the season and went through the matchups, who would face different people," Hale said. "And the way we looked at it, just trying to do as much research as we could, it looks like the matchups for Corbin are better in the three-hole and Miller in the two-hole. As of right now."

If the D-backs remain in rotation throughout April, Miller would face the Rockies, Cubs, Padres, Giants and Cardinals. Corbin would face the Rockies, Dodgers, Padres, Pirates and Cardinals.

The fifth spot in the rotation appears to be a battle between four main candidates -- lefty Robbie Ray and right-handers Archie Bradley, Tyler Wagner and Zack Godley.

Ray went into camp with a leg up given his performance last season. He has pitched well in his first two outings.
