La Nueva 94.1 FM will carry all 162 regular season games, marking the first time that Astros games will be broadcast in Spanish on an FM station. Returning to call the action on the air will be the broadcast team of Francisco Romero (play-by-play) and Alex Trevino (color). The 2016 season will be the ninth calling Astros games for Romero and the 21st for Trevino, the former Astros catcher who spent 13 seasons in the Major Leagues overall. Popular Astros icon Jose Cruz will also make frequent appearances in the broadcast booth as in past seasons.
"We are extremely excited about this new venture with the Astros," said Omar Romero, CEO of the Latino Broadcasting Corporation. "We're proud to make history as the first FM station to carry Astros games in Spanish and are thrilled to start a long and mutually beneficial partnership not only for our organizations, but for our beloved community."
"This will be a great partnership for the Astros and for our many Spanish-speaking fans," said Astros President of Business Operations Reid Ryan. "We feel that the 2016 season has the chance to be very special for the Astros. We're very pleased that La Nueva 94.1 FM will be bringing that excitement to many of our great fans."
Hector Guevara serves as President of the Latino Broadcasting Corporation, which was founded by he and his brother, Roberto. The LBC is based in Houston and owns two Spanish-speaking radio stations in the city: La Nueva 94.1 FM and La Mejor 104.5 FM.
