CLEVELAND -- Indians right-handed reliever Justin Germano has accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Columbus. Germano will attend Spring Training with the Tribe as a non-roster invitee.
Germano, 28, appeared in 23 games for the Tribe in 2010, posting a 3.31 ERA with a .206 opponents' batting average across 35 1/3 innings. The righty signed with the Indians during Spring Training last year after spending the 2009 season pitching in Japan. Dating back to '04, Germano has fashioned a 4.98 ERA over 70 career games between tours with the Padres, Reds and Indians.
Cleveland's 40-man roster currently stands at 39, as recently signed outfielder Austin Kearns is still not officially on the roster. Due to the holidays, the approval of Kearns contract has been delayed by Major League Baseball and the MLB Players' Association.
Cleveland signed Kearns to a one-year contract worth $1.3 million plus incentives on Dec. 20. Kearns, who hit .263 with 10 home runs and 49 RBIs between stints with the Tribe and Yankees last season, will head into camp as a fourth outfield option for the Indians.
