ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have acquired outfielder Victor Diaz from the New York Mets for catcher Mike Nickeas.
Diaz, a right-handed hitter, has played in 110 games for the Mets over the past three seasons. In 342 at-bats, he has hit .260 with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs. He is batting .224 with eight home runs and 38 RBIs at Triple-A Norfolk.
Diaz has been assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma and is not expected to be a September callup.
Nickeas has played at Double-A Frisco and Class A Bakersfield in 2006. In 39 games for Frisco he batted .248 with two home runs and 15 RBIs. He hit .297 with six RBIs in 17 games for Bakersfield.
To make room for Diaz on the 40-man roster, the Rangers have outrighted outfielder Adam Hyzdu to Oklahoma.
