Rumor roundup: Market for Gallardo heats up

The offseason action picked up again Wednesday with a pair of deals for free-agent relievers, as the Mets inked Antonio Bastardo and the Padres added Fernando Rodney, and that wasn't the only news on the Hot Stove.

Here's a look at some of the latest rumblings from Major League Baseball's rumor mill.

Gallardo drawing interest
The Orioles and Astros are among the clubs showing interest in right-hander Yovani Gallardo, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

The top free-agent starter available, Gallardo has also been linked to the Blue Jays this offseason. He's tied to Draft-pick compensation because he declined a qualifying offer from the Rangers.

Gallardo went 13-11 with a 3.42 ERA with Texas in 2015. He's also made at least 30 starts in each of the last seven seasons.

Padres in the mix for Cespedes?
Add the Padres to the list of teams interested in top remaining free agent Yoenis Cespedes.

The Padres are monitoring Cespedes' market, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, although the report said it's unlikely a deal takes shape. The club has a void to fill in the outfield with Justin Upton's departure to Detroit.

In other updates Wednesday regarding Cespedes, the Nationals reportedly made him an offer that is said to be for less than the $132.75 million that Tigers gave Upton, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Also, the White Sox still have interest, but only on a three-year deal, according to USA Today, and the Mets remain in touch, per Heyman.

Marlins looking at rotation pieces
The Marlins added Wei-Yin Chen to their rotation this week, but the club remains in the market for starting pitching.

Miami would like to add a veteran starter and have interest in Doug Fister, Alfredo Simon, Tim Lincecum and Cliff Lee, according to the Miami Herald.

Fister is coming off a down season with the Nationals in which he went 5-7 with a 4.19 ERA in 25 appearances (15 starts). Simon went 13-12 and posted a 5.05 ERA in 31 starts with the Tigers last year.

Lincecum and Lee are each coming back from injury. Lincecum, who plans to hold a showcase this month, had season-ending hip surgery in September. Lee missed the entire 2015 season with elbow issues.

Rays contact Webb
The Rays are one of the clubs talking to free-agent reliever Ryan Webb, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Webb made 40 appearances for the Indians last season and had a 3.20 ERA with 31 strikeouts over 50 2/3 innings.
