With the Latin American winter leagues in their playoffs, only three players from the Padres system are still playing regularly.

Outfielder Rymer Liriano is playing left field for Licey in the Dominican Republic playoffs. After hitting .196 in 34 games with three homers and 13 RBIs during the regular season, Liriano is hitting .227 in the playoffs for a team that is off to a 12-1 start in the round-robin playoffs and has clinched a spot in the championship series.

First baseman Ricardo Valenzuela is with the Obregon team that has reached the semifinals of the Mexican Pacific League playoffs. Valenzuela hit .292 during the regular season. Center fielder Alberth Martinez hit .198 in 49 games with Magdalenes in Venezuela during the regular season. He had a homer and six RBIs with 22 runs scored (many as a pinch-runner) with a .320 on-base percentage.

--Left-handed relief pitcher Ryan Buchter, 28, who was just added to the Padres' 40-man roster, was 3-0 with 10 saves in as many chances with a 0.72 earned run average for Culiacan in Mexico. He allowed 14 hits and 10 walks with 35 strikeouts in 25 innings - or 0.96 runners per inning (WHIP).

--Right-handed starter Phil Humber, 33, was 1-2 with a 3.18 ERA in four starts covering 17 innings for Gigantes in the Dominican Republic.

--Right-handed starter Luis Diaz, 23, was 1-2 with a 2.43 ERA in 12 starts for Caracas in Venezuela. Diaz has allowed 49 hits and 21 walks with 43 strikeouts in 59 1/3 innings -- the most innings worked by a Padres pitcher this winter.

--Right-hander Ryan Butler, 23, was 3-1 with a 2.45 ERA in six appearances (four starts) with Peoria of the Arizona Fall League.

--Left-handed reliever Buddy Baumann, 28, who the Padres signed to a Major League contract recently, had a 4.50 earned run average in five appearances for La Guaira in Venezuela.

--Right-handed reliever Jose Dominguez was 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP in eight appearances with Licey in the Dominican Republic. He had eight strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.

--Right-handed reliever Cesar Vargas was 2-1 with three saves and a 2.86 ERA in 26 appearances for Hermosillo in Mexico. He had 38 strikeouts and 14 walks in 28 1/3 innings. --Left-handed reliever Jose Torres was 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA in Venezuela.

--Right-handed reliever Josh Martin was 1-1 with three saves and a 5.68 ERA in 17 appearances in Venezuela. He had 11 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings.

--Right-hander Carlos Pimental was 0-2 with a 3.82 ERA in 10 appearances (seven starts) with Escogido in the Dominican Republic. He allowed 37 hits and nine walks with 19 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings.

--Right-hander Eric Yardley was 1-0 with three saves with a 5.25 ERA in 10 appearances with Peoria in the AFL.


--Second baseman Carlos Asuaje, 24, hit .329 (24-for-73 with seven RBIs) with a .359 on-base percentage for Arizona Fall League champion Scottsdale. Asuaje was a member of the AFL's all-prospect team.

--Infielder Jose Pirela, 26, hit .309 (58-for-188) with 12 doubles, three triples, two homers and 20 RBIs for Zulia in Venezuela. Pirela also drew 24 walks for a .387 on-base percentage plus a .436 slugging percentage.

--Second baseman Luis Urias, 18, hit .280 (30-for-107) with a .369 on-base percentage for Obregon in Mexico.

--Outfielder Nick Torres, 22, hit .264 (23-for-87 with two homers and seven RBIs) for Peoria of the AFT.

--Catcher Rocky Gale, 27,who took over behind the plate for Austin Hedges with Escogido in the Dominican Republic, finished with a .315 batting average (23-for-73, eight RBIs) in 20 games in the Dominican Republic. Hedges had hit .236 (17-for-72 with three homers and five RBIs) for Escogido.

-- Catcher Ryan Miller, 23, hit .298 (36-for-121 with 12 doubles, a triple and six homers for 29 RBIs) in 37 games for Canberra in Australia. Miller had a .323 on-base percentage and a .562 slugging percentage. Infielder River Stevens, 23, hit .263 (21-for-80 with a homer and nine RBIs in 28 games with Canberra.

--Center fielder Manuel Margot, 21, finished his play in the Dominican Republic with a .218 average with three homers and 11 RBIs in 25 games for the Toros.

--Infielder Alexi Amarista hit .234 (15-for-64) in 17 games in Venezuela.

--Catcher Jason Hagerty hit .241 (13-for-54 with a homer and seven RBIs) in 16 games in Venezuela.
