2016 Tigers Winter Caravan ready to roll

Tigers players, coaches, executives and broadcasters to visit fans throughout the state

The 2016 Detroit Tigers Winter Caravan in partnership with FOX Sports Detroit, is set for Thursday, January 21 and Friday, January 22, and features an exciting lineup of stops throughout the state of Michigan. Tigers Executive Vice President, Baseball Operations and General Manager Al Avila, Executive Vice President, Business Operations Duane McLean, Vice President, Assistant General Manager David Chadd, Special Assistant to the General Manager Alan Trammell, Manager Brad Ausmus, coaches, players, broadcasters, and Detroit's favorite mascot PAWS, will take part in a two-day journey across the region, spreading baseball fever to fans of all ages. 

"Tigers Winter Caravan gives us all warm feelings and reminds us that spring training and the 2016 season are just around the corner," said Tigers Vice President of Public Affairs and Strategic Planning Elaine Lewis. "We are excited with the participation we're anticipating from the players, manager, coaches and team personnel and this year's caravan has historic significance as we will recognize anniversaries of first responders." 

The 2016 Detroit Tigers Winter Caravan will be making nearly 30 stops throughout the region, including 10 new destinations, and will visit the city of Livonia for the first time. The Metro Bus will visit with Centro Multicultural Familia, the Detroit Public Library and the Livonia Fire Department to name a few, while the West Bus will debut at the Lansing State Journal and Meijer Headquarters.

Thursday, January 21 

Children's Hospital (DMC) 1:05-2:10 p.m.

  • Players provide gifts to 300 inpatients and visit select patient rooms. 

Detroit Police Department 1:10-2:00 p.m.

  • Tigers uniformed personnel to participate in rally with police officers, which will include an interactive question and answer session. 
  • Jersey presentation to recognize 150th Anniversary. 
  • Players to visit the Homicide Unit.

  • Meet and Greet with Veterans from the hospital and VIP guests. 
  • Justin Verlander will participate in the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the renovated Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy Wing, The Fastball Lounge, and reception area on the second floor of the Liberty Building, made possible in part by a donation made by Verlander through a grant managed by the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan.

  • In celebration of the 75th Anniversary, Tigers uniformed personnel will present a jersey and autographed helmet and have dinner with the Livonia Firefighters, BELFOR representatives and guests. 
  • Players will explore the firehouse and emergency response vehicles with the assistance of Livonia firefighters. 

Tuskegee Airmen National Historical Museum 4:50-5:30 p.m.

  • Mario Impemba, Justin Verlander and Dave Clark visit with Tuskegee Airmen and friends of the museum. 
  • Jersey presentation to recognize Tuskegee Airmen's 75th Anniversary by Justin Verlander.

The Henry Ford Museum 5:00-6:15 p.m.
