The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has acquired RHP Dan Otero from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for cash considerations.
Otero, 30, has spent virtually his entire career with Oakland Athletics, posting a Major League career mark of 12-6 with 1 save and a 3.46 ERA in 158 relief appearances (184.2IP, 205H, 71ER, 29BB, 108SO). He spent most of the 2015 season in Oakland, allowing just 2 runs over his last 7 outings to conclude the season (9.0IP), before being claimed on outright waivers by Philadelphia on November 3. He finished 2nd in the A.L. in relief innings (86.2) and T-10th in games pitched (72) in 2014. He began his pro career in the SF Giants organization after being selected in the 21st round of the First-Year Player Draft out of the University of South Florida.
To allow room on the 40-man roster OF Jerry Sands has been designated for assignment.
