A's Select OF Jabari Blash in Rule 5 Draft; Trade Him to Padres

The Oakland A's selected outfielder Jabari Blash from the Seattle Mariners organization in the Major League portion of the Rule 5 Draft, the club announced today. The A's then sent Blash to the San Diego Padres as the player to be named later in the December 2 trade in which Oakland acquired Yonder Alonso and Marc Rzepczynski for Drew Pomeranz, Jose Torres and a player to be named later.

Blash batted a combined .271 with 32 home runs and 81 RBI in 116 games with Triple-A Tacoma and Double-A Jackson in the Seattle organization last year. He tied for second in minor league baseball in home runs. The 26-year-old right-handed hitter was the Mariners eighth round selection in the 2010 draft and is a .256 career hitter with 109 home runs and 340 RBI in 551 games in six professional seasons.
