Rockies Trade Rule 5 Draft Pick Luis Perdomo

The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has traded right-handed pitcher Luis Perdomo to the San Diego Padres in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. The Rockies selected Perdomo from the St. Louis Cardinals in the Major League phase of today's Rule 5 Draft. 

Additionally, the Rockies selected right-handed pitcher Luis Niebla from Double-A Trenton of the New York Yankees organization in the Minor League phase of the Rule 5 Draft.

  • Perdomo, 22, made 23 appearances, 22 starts, in 2015 between Single-A Palm Beach and High-A Peoria … he went a combined 6-12 with a 3.98 ERA (126.2 IP, 56 ER), 37 walks and 118 strikeouts in 2015 … is 16-31 with a 4.10 ERA (316.0 IP, 144 ER) in five professional seasons.
  • Niebla, 24, made 33 appearances, three starts, in 2015 between High-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton in the Yankees organization, going 2-6 with a 4.50 ERA (60.0 IP, 30 ER), 18 walks and 48 strikeouts across both levels … was named a Mid-Season All-Star with High-A Tampa after going 0-2 with a 1.96 ERA (23.0 IP, 5 ER) in the first half … in parts of six seasons, is 23-16 with a 3.80 ERA (270.0 IP, 114 ER).

The Rockies currently have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
