Astros Complete Rule 5 Draft with One Minor League Selection

Houston selects pitcher in the Triple A phase of Rule 5 Draft

NASHVILLE, TN - The Houston Astros made one selection in the Triple A phase of the Rule 5 Draft today, selecting right-handed pitcher Octavio Acosta from the New York Mets organization.

In the Major League phase, the Astros did not make a selection and did not lose a player to another organization. Additionally, no Astros were taken in the two minor league phases.

Acosta, 25, spent his 2015 season in the Mexican League, making eight starts for Oaxaca. A Mexican native, Acosta was originally signed by New York as a non-draft free agent on May 28, 2010. He pitched in parts of four seasons (2010, 2012-14) in the Mets organization before being assigned to Oaxaca in June of 2015.
