NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Angels are offering an opportunity to meet superstar Mike Trout as part of this year's Winter Meetings charity auction, which is geared toward raising awareness and funds for cancer research.
The initiative -- a joint effort between Major League Baseball, MLB Advanced Media and MLB Network -- has raised nearly $500,000 since its inception at the 2012 Winter Meetings, with a significant portion of the proceeds going to Stand Up To Cancer.
This year's auction will also benefit "Do It For Durrett," in honor of late Rangers ESPN.com beat reporter Richard Durrett, who passed suddenly last year, and the YouCaring page established for Marlins beat reporter Juan C. Rodriguez, of the Sun Sentinel, who's currently battling a brain tumor.
The auction is live on MLB.com until 9 p.m. ET on Thursday. All 30 teams are involved, offering unique experiences like hiking Camelback Mountain with D-backs center fielder A.J. Pollock, brewing beer with Twins closer Glen Perkins, playing golf with Nats starter Max Scherzer, taking lessons with Red Sox hitting coach Chili Davis and going on a Spring Training fishing trip with Rays manager Kevin Cash.
