Atkins named Blue Jays general manager

The Toronto Blue Jays have named Ross Atkins as Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager. He becomes the seventh General Manager in franchise history. Tony LaCava will remain in the organization and has been promoted to the position of Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations and Assistant General Manager after serving as the Interim General Manager.
 
Atkins, 42, has spent his entire professional career with the Cleveland Indians organization after being selected in 38th round of the 1995 draft as a right-handed pitcher. The Greensboro, North Carolina native joined the Player Development department in 2000 following his playing career. Atkins has spent the past 15 seasons in Player Development, with his most recent role as Vice President of Player Personnel where he oversaw all elements of the Indians Player Development system. He previously served as Vice President of Player Development from 2011-14 and as Director of Player Development from 2007-2010. His ascension in the Cleveland system also included three seasons, from 2004-2006, as the Director of Latin American Operations.
