DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced on Wednesday that they have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with right-handed pitcher Jordan Lyles to avoid arbitration. Additionally, the Rockies will not tender contracts to left-handed pitchers Yohan Flande, Jason Gurka, and outfielder Rosell Herrera for the 2016 season.
· Lyles, 25, began the 2015 season in the Rockies starting rotation, but made just 10 starts before being placed on the disabled list on June 1 with a medial collateral ligament injury in his left big toe that required season-ending surgery … in his 10 starts for the Rockies in 2015, went 2-5 with a 5.14 ERA (49.0 IP, 28 ER), 30 strikeouts and 19 walks ... made 22 starts for the Rockies in his first season with the club in 2014, and went 7-4 with a 4.33 ERA (126.2 IP, 61 ER), 90 strikeouts and 46 walks … he was originally acquired by the Rockies via trade with the Houston Astros on Dec. 3, 2013 … in his career, is 23-38 with a 5.10 ERA (552.2 IP, 313 ER), 379 strikeouts and 182 walks in 104 games with 97 starts across parts of five seasons with the Astros and Rockies. · Flande, 29, made 10 starts in 19 appearances for the Rockies in 2015, and went 3-3 with a 4.74 ERA (68.1 IP, 36 ER), 43 strikeouts and 25 walks … he was originally acquired by the Rockies as a Minor League free agent on Nov. 25, 2013 … across parts of two seasons with the Rockies, went 3-9 with a 4.95 ERA (127.1 IP, 70 ER), 41 walks and 77 strikeouts. · Gurka, 27, made his Major League debut with the Rockies on Aug. 29 and made nine appearances out of the bullpen in 2015 … received no decisions and recorded a 9.39 ERA (7.2 IP, 8 ER) with two walks and seven strikeouts. Gurka Stats
· Herrera, 23, spent the 2015 season in High-A Modesto, where he played 123 games across all positions in the outfield as well as one game at shortstop … he batted .260 (121-for-466) with 55 runs, 20 doubles, six triples, four home runs, 36 RBI, nine stolen bases, 37 walks and 97 strikeouts … he was originally signed by the Rockies as an amateur free agent on May 29, 2010.
