The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed right-handed pitcher Guido Knudson (pronounced Geedo) off waivers from the Detroit Tigers. The announcement was made by Pirates Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.
The 26-year-old Knudson went a combined 1-2 with 11 saves, a 2.56 ERA (59.2ip/17er) and 60 strikeouts in 40 appearances (one start) between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo in 2015. He also made his Major League debut this past season with Detroit, appearing in four games.
Knudson was originally selected by Detroit in the 28th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft. He has posted a 6-14 record, 18 saves, a 3.11 ERA (245.2ip/85er), 237 strikeouts and a .236 batting average against in 156 appearances (three starts) in the minor leagues since making his professional debut in 2011.
