PITTSBURGH -- Hear Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard offer encouragement to San Diego's Trevor Hoffman in the fateful ninth inning of Tuesday's Midsummer Classic.
Hear Mets rookie sensation David Wright tell American League third-base coach John Gibbons how he was going to swing at the first pitch of his first All-Star at-bat, no matter the location of the pitch. (The plan worked. He hit a home run.)
Hear it all on Saturday's "This Week in Baseball," as FOX filmed the popular weekly show from the Steel City to give fans a perspective on this week's All-Star festivities through the eyes of five players making their Midsummer Classic debuts. During parts of Monday's CENTURY 21 Home Run Derby and Tuesday's game, wires were placed on Howard, Wright, Mets second baseman Jose Reyes, Red Sox closer Jonathan Pabelbon and even Chicago's colorful catcher, A.J. Pierzynski.
"He was very cognizant of the wire being on," joked Dave Check, the show's executive producer.
The clips will be molded together with highlights to give fans a unique, insider's story of this week's action from PNC Park.
"You kind of get to hear and feel what they were going through and feel like you're on the field with an insider's perspective," said Check.
A separate segment saw crews follow Wright and Papelbon throughout the week for a behind-the-scenes look at the pair's All-Star experience.
Capping the show are the top plays of the season's first half -- as selected by a poll of several All-Stars -- intercut with Guster's hit single, "C'Mon."
Also this week, Chevrolet's "Front Row Fans" will feature celebrities in town for the celebrity game (Dean Cain, Jimmy Kimmel, Sarah Silverman, etc.) sounding off on their baseball passion and highlights from the finals of the Pepsi Pitch, Hit and Run skills competition will be shown.
"This Week in Baseball" airs each Saturday on FOX and is repeated throughout the week on New England Sports Network (NESN), Channel 4 San Diego, Comcast Sportsnet Chicago and Comcast Sportsnet West.
