The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has reinstated infielder Jurickson Profar from the 60-day disabled list. Profar is scheduled to play today in the Arizona Fall League for the Surprise Saguaros in their game at Scottsdale Stadium against the Scorpions.
Profar, 22, spent the entire 2015 season on the 60-day disabled list after having surgery on February 23 to repair a labrum tear in his right shoulder. At the end of the minor league season, he played 12 games on injury rehabilitation assignments with Hickory (A) and Frisco (AA), batting a combined .256 (11-43) with one home run, 2 doubles, and 6 RBI while appearing exclusively as the designated hitter. He also saw extensive action during the club's instructional league schedule this fall. Profar missed most of the 2014-15 seasons due to the injured right shoulder after seeing time with the Rangers in 2012-13.
With the reinstatement of Profar, the Rangers now have 39 players on the club's 40-man roster, as well as 3 players (Alex Claudio, Yu Darvish, Nick Tepesch) on the 60-day disabled list.
BLANKS NOW A FREE AGENT: First baseman Kyle Blanks, who was assigned outright to the Round Rock Express of the Pacific Coast League yesterday, has elected free agency.
