Van Slyke out of NLDS; door open for Puig

LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers outfielder Scott Van Slyke said he won't be active for the National League Division Series because of an injured right wrist, probably clearing a spot for Yasiel Puig.

It was also learned that the club will keep veteran reliever Joel Peralta, putting Juan Nicasio and Carlos Frias on the bubble. Mike Bolsinger was sent to the team's Arizona training complex to stay sharp in the event a change is needed, while veteran reliever Jim Johnson was sent home

Manager Don Mattingly said all players have been informed of their roles, but the roster won't be announced until it is submitted to Major League Baseball on Friday. Puig on Wednesday told the media he was informed that he's on the roster.

Van Slyke, who first injured the wrist Sept. 15, returned five days later but reinjured the wrist when brushed by baserunner Marlon Byrd while taking a throw at first base last week.

A cortisone injection did not relieve the inflammation. Van Slyke said he was able to throw but not hit.

While Puig was out of the lineup in September with a strained hamstring, newly acquired Justin Ruggiano took his place and was productive as a right-handed-hitting outfielder. He figures to join Puig as an option for Mattingly
