Blue Jays statement on Michael Burgess

The Toronto Blue Jays express their sincere thoughts with the family and loved ones of tenor Michael Burgess who passed away at age 70 last night. Burgess played the role of Jean Valjean in more than 1,000 performances of Les Misérables at the historic Royal Alex and on tour across Canada. Burgess was the first person to sing "O Canada" at a World Series baseball game when the Blue Jays played the Braves in Atlanta in 1992.

"Today I am saddened by the loss of one of Toronto's greatest voices. Michael was an inspiration to all Canadians as his presence spread across sports, theatre and music." - Paul Beeston, President & CEO of Toronto Blue Jays
