Greg Holland to miss remainder of the season
Kansas City Royals right-handed pitcher Greg Holland will not pitch again during the 2015 season due to an injury to his right elbow. The severity of the injury will be determined next week when he is examined by Dr. Neil ElAttrache of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthapaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, CA.
Holland, 29, is tied for sixth in the American League with 32 saves this year and is 3-2 with a 3.83 ERA in 48 appearances with the Royals this season. A two-time All-Star (2013, 2014), Holland has the second-most saves in the Major Leagues (125) since the start of 2013, trailing only Craig Kimbrel (134), while his 1.97 ERA in that span ranks ninth among MLB relief pitchers. He's also the first Royals pitcher to record 30-plus saves in three consecutive seasons since Joakim Soria (2008-10), while he's just the fourth pitcher in franchise history to accomplish this, joining Soria, Jeff Montgomery (1991-93) and Dan Quisenberry (1982-85).
