Brock Holt named Red Sox nominee for 2015 Roberto Clemente Award

Red Sox to Honor 2015 American League All-Star For his Work in the Community Prior to the Game on September 23

Brock Holt was named the Red Sox nominee for the 2015 Roberto Clemente Award presented by Chevrolet. Boston's All-Star utility man is one of 30 club finalists for the annual award, which recognizes a Major League Baseball player who best represents the game of baseball through positive contributions on and off the field, including sportsmanship and community involvement. The Roberto Clemente Award presented by Chevrolet pays tribute to Clemente's achievements and character by recognizing current players who truly understand the value of helping others.

Today, September 16, marks the 14th annual Roberto Clemente Day, which was established by Major League Baseball to honor Clemente's legacy and to officially recognize local Club nominees of the Roberto Clemente Award presented by Chevrolet.

Holt, a first-time American League All-Star in 2015, has been very active with the Jimmy Fund in his three years with the Red Sox. Since his first interaction with the organization in January of 2013, he has become more involved and more passionate about the cause. From visits and meet and greets with patients at Fenway Park in Boston and at the club's spring training headquarters in Fort Myers, FL, to multiple visits to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Holt has invested a considerable amount of time with the Jimmy Fund and its patients.

For the 2015 season, Holt was designated by the Red Sox as a Jimmy Fund Co-Captain along with teammate Pablo Sandoval. Each year, these co-captains serve as advocates and ambassadors for both the club and the Jimmy Fund. Last month, Holt represented the club during the 14th annual WEEI-NESN Jimmy Fund Radio Telethon, in which more than $3 million was raised in support of cancer research and care at Dana-Farber.

Aside from his work with the Jimmy Fund, Holt is also very active in the Boston community. He has interacted with fans through meet and greets, autograph sessions and youth baseball clinics at Fenway Park. He has also been a key contributor in the Red Sox' Calling All Kids Initiative in 2015.

In addition, on Tuesday, September 22, Holt will be honored as Man of the Year by the BoSox Club, the award that is annually given to a deserving Red Sox team member recognizing not only their contribution to the success of the team on the field, but also for their cooperation and efforts in community endeavors.

For his efforts, Holt will be recognized as the club's Clemente Award nominee in a pre-game ceremony at Fenway Park prior to next Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays at 7:10 p.m.
