Rays announce Minor League award winners

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays have named left-hander Blake Snell the organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season and infielder Richie Shaffer has been named the Minor League Player of the Year.

Snell and Shaffer highlighted the organization's 2015 Minor League award winners. Snell is ranked by MLBPipeline.com as the club's No. 2 prospect, while Shaffer is No. 11.

This year's winners will be honored during an awards ceremony prior to Friday night's game against the Orioles. A pregame autograph session will be held along the right-field line from 5:45-6:30 p.m. ET on Friday, featuring many of the organization's award winners.

Right-hander Mark Sappington was named the Erik Walker Community Champion.

The following players were named Most Valuable Player for their respective Minor League teams: utility man Taylor Motter (Triple-A Durham); outfielder Tyler Goeddel (Double-A Montgomery); right-hander Jacob Faria (Class A Advanced Charlotte); first baseman Casey Gillaspie (Class A Bowling Green); infielder Jake Cronenworth (Class A short season Hudson Valley); outfielder Zacrey Law (Rookie-level Princeton); outfielder Oscar Rojas (Gulf Coast League Rays); outfielder Jesus Sanchez (Dominican Summer League Rays); and catcher Rene Pinto (Venezuelan Summer League Rays).

Baserunner of the Year honors went to outfielder Joey Rickard (Charlotte, Montgomery and Durham), while right-hander Brad Schreiber (Charlotte and Montgomery) was named Reliever of the Year and outfielder Braxton Lee (Charlotte) was named Defensive Player of the Year.
