Prospect Travieso among Reds headed to AFL

CHICAGO -- Two of the Reds' top 10 prospects according to were among those selected to play in the Arizona Fall League for the Peoria Javelinas after the season.

Class A Advanced Daytona right-handed pitcher Nick Travieso, who is ranked No. 6, and shortstop Alex Blandino, the No. 7 prospect that was promoted this season to Double-A Pensacola, will be leading the group of Reds farmhands in Arizona during October and November.

Also playing for Peoria will be Pensacola right-handed pitcher Stephen Johnson, who was acquired from the Giants in the Aug. 20 trade for Marlon Byrd, Triple-A Louisville right-handed pitcher Layne Somsen and Pensacola right-hander Zack Weiss.

Reds position player prospects in the AFL will include catcher Chad Wallach from Daytona and Pensacola outfielder Phillip Ervin, the organization's No. 11 prospect.

Derrin Ebert from Rookie-level Billings will serve as Peoria's pitching coach.

The Javelinas will also feature prospects from the Braves, Mariners, Orioles and Padres and be managed by former big league catcher Rod Barajas. Home games will be played at the Peoria Sports Complex, the Spring Training home of both the Mariners and Padres.
