First-Place Astros Continue Hunt for Division Title in Upcoming Homestand

With just over one month left of regular season, Houston holds 5.0 game lead in AL West

HOUSTON, TX - The Astros enter the final month of the regular season during the upcoming homestand as they host the Seattle Mariners (Aug. 31-Sept. 2) and the Minnesota Twins (Sept. 4-6). The series against the Seattle Mariners kicks off a month featuring 24 divisional matchups in a tight AL West title race. The Astros have been spectacular at home this season, especially of late. During the last homestand, Houston went 7-3 with four walk-off wins, a no-hitter by RHP Mike Fiers and a sweep of Zack Grienke, Clayton Kershaw and the NL West-leading Dodgers. The Astros are now 45-21 at home, which is the best home record in the AL.

 

The "Season of the #Whiff" campaign, in partnership with the Astros, MLB and Head & Shoulders, continues to raise money for local RBI programs through Twitter. The team with the most #Whiff tweets, including retweets, will earn a donation for their location RBI league, and the top monthly winner will earn a $10,000 donation. Fans can participate and help raise money for the Astros RBI program by including #Whiff and @Astros in their tweets or retweets, with a 27 tweet limit per day per Twitter handle. The Astros placed third in July and have raised $22,000 for Astros RBI to date.

 

Monday, August 31 - 7:10 p.m. vs. Seattle

The Astros are kicking off the homestand with a Dallas Keuchel start, which means another Keuchel's Korner day at the ballpark. The dedicated fan section, located in sections 105 and 106, includes a signature Keuchel beard giveaway and an exclusive Keuchel's Korner #GoBeardOrGoHome T-shirt. Prior to Monday's 7:10 contest, the Astros will celebrate RHP Mike Fiers' historic no-hitter with an on-field pregame ceremony and the presentation of a special gift, commemorating Fiers' place in Astros and MLB history.

 

Additionally, Ramon "Buelo" Galvan, a life-long Astros fans, will throw out a ceremonial first pitch on what will be his 97th birthday.

 

Tuesday, September 1 - 7:10 p.m. vs. Seattle

Friday, September 4 - 7:10 p.m. vs. Minnesota

Big and Bright Friday Night returns with a postgame fireworks display, presented by Marathon Oil Corporation. This week's fireworks show will feature a Star Wars™ theme.

 

Friday night is also Happy Hour at Minute Maid Park, featuring $5.25 specials at the Saint Arnold Bar in left field and Day Fresh Budweiser at the Budweiser Patio from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

 

Saturday, September 5 - 6:10 p.m. vs. Minnesota

Prior to Saturday's matchup with the Twins, all Astros fans will receive a commemorative Mike Fiers no-hitter poster giveaway. And beginning Monday, Aug. 31, the Astros will be offering a limited number of $11 View Deck tickets to celebrate the 11th no-hitter in Astros history.

 

Saturday is the Houston Area Chevy Dealers' Military Appreciation Day. The Houston Area Chevy Dealers distributed 500 tickets to military members and their families for a day at the ballpark as the Astros take on the Minnesota Twins at 6:10 p.m. Representatives from each military branch will participate in a flag presentation ceremony on the field during pregame. 

 

Sunday, September 6 - 1:10 p.m. vs. Minnesota

The force is arriving in Houston on Sunday, Sept. 6 for Star Wars™ Day at Minute Maid Park. Fans are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Star Wars™ characters and watch as Minute Maid Park transforms into a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars™ tickets are available for $29 in the Bullpen or for $34 in Field Box IV. Additionally, fans who purchase tickets in the Star Wars™ sections will receive an Orbit-Wan Kenobi bobblehead. The Orbit-wan Kenobi bobbleheads are subject to availability and will be distributed through the 5th inning to fans in possession of a Star Wars™ ticket.
