News & Notes About the A's Upcoming Homestand

The A's open a nine-game, 10-day homestand on Monday, Aug. 31, with a 7:05 p.m. contest against the Los Angeles Angels. The homestand features three-game series against a trio of American League West rivals: the Angels, Seattle Mariners, and Houston Astros.

The A's penultimate homestand of the season is highlighted by Oktoberfest (Sept. 4), Green Day Fireworks Night (Sept. 5), Breast Cancer Awareness Day/BCA Day Scarf Giveaway presented by Zevia (Sept. 6), and the Striped Socks Backpack Giveaway presented by Chevron Techron Advantage Credit Card (Sept. 7).

Promotions & Special Events

Oktoberfest: On Friday, Sept. 4, specialty beers will be available throughout the stadium during the A's annual Oktoberfest event, and fans can enjoy German-themed entertainment and food as well. With the purchase of a special ticket package, fans will be able to attend a Brewmaster Meet and Greet and receive an Oktoberfest ceramic stein.

Green Day Fireworks Night: The A's final fireworks show of the season-set for Saturday, Sept. 5-will be an ode to iconic East Bay rockers Green Day, who were recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Members of Green Day will be on hand for a pre-game ceremony on the field and ceremonial first pitch, while pre-recorded Green Day hits will accompany the post-game fireworks show. Fans can to watch the fireworks from the outfield grass, but on-field capacity is limited.

Breast Cancer Awareness Day, presented by Zevia: On Sunday, Sept. 6, the A's will host their 17th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day, presented by Zevia. At Sunday's game, 10,000 fans will receive a Zevia Breast Cancer Awareness Day Scarf, survivors will form a human pink ribbon on the field, and white doves will be released prior to the game. At Gate A, pink jerseys and other BCA Day items will be on sale to benefit the American Cancer Society and Cancer Prevention Institute of California. In addition, the annual Gift of Faith Award will be presented to the Charlotte Maxwell Foundation.

Striped Socks Backpack Giveaway, presented by Chevron Techron Advantage Credit Card: On Monday, Sept. 7, fans can celebrate Labor Day with a 1:05 p.m. matinee against the Houston Astros, where 15,000 fans will receive a Striped Socks Backpack, presented by Chevron Techron Advantage Credit Card.

Community Relations

Breast Cancer Awareness Day Fundraising Table: At each game until Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Sept. 6, fans will have the opportunity to purchase Breast Cancer Awareness Day pins, caps and necklaces with proceeds benefitting breast cancer education, research and awareness. Also, once again the A's will be raffling off a custom-made autographed quilt; raffle tickets for the quilt are $5 each. The fundraising table will be set up behind section 120.

MDA Fill the Boot Fundraising Events: On Sept. 4-5, local firefighters-along with A's players' wives and girlfriends-will be fundraising with MDA Fill the Boot events at Gate D and the BART ramp (beginning at 5:05 on Sept. 4 and 4:05 on Sept. 5). Support MDA and the fight to save and improve the lives of those fighting muscle disease by filling the boot on Sept. 4 and 5.

Green Stampede Homework Club: On select games throughout the season, elementary school students will visit O.co Coliseum to receive help with their homework from tutors and aids. An A's player will visit and sign autographs for the students as a way to congratulate them for their hard work. After the students have finished their homework, they are able to sit in the stands and watch the game.

Food Bank Wednesdays: During select Wednesday home games, A's fans can donate five cans of food or $5 to the Alameda County Community Food Bank at Gates C, D, and the BART Plaza. Each fan that contributes receives a 2-for-1 plaza level ticket voucher for a future A's game.

A's Amigos: The A's Amigos program gives our community's bilingual Spanish speaking children of non-profit organizations the opportunity to interact with bilingual speaking A's players. Participants are able to learn about the value of sportsmanship and hard work from their role models. In addition to the pre-game chat, each child receives a game ticket and an A's cap. A's Amigos is sponsored by Kelly-Moore Paints.

School of Imagination Visits: Throughout the season Stephen Vogt and his wife Alyssa have been visiting Dublin's School of Imagination. The Vogts will again visit the school on Tuesday, Sept. 1, and will host a group of children for a pre-game visit on Wednesday, Sept. 2. The program is supported by Azusa Pacific University, Stephen and Alyssa's alma mater.
