Tampa Bay's Loney disciplined

Rays first baseman receives one-game suspension

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman James Loney has received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for making contact with Umpire Paul Nauert at the conclusion of the top of the sixth inning of the Club's Saturday, August 22nd game against the Oakland Athletics at O.co Coliseum. Joe Garagiola, Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards & On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Loney's suspension had been scheduled to be served tonight, when the Rays are to open a three-game home series against the Minnesota Twins at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. However, he has elected to file an appeal. Thus, the discipline issued to him will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
